This page describes how Writely Pro and Writely Lifetime are billed, renewed and cancelled. It supplements the Terms of Service and does not replace the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, which govern the purchase itself. The German version is the legally authoritative one.
Alluson, not Apple, is the contracting party for every purchase. Apple acts as intermediary: it processes the payment, issues the invoice and carries out refunds.
Free: free of charge, with 1 handwriting, 4 documents, 2 folders and 3 exports per 24 hours (image export or copying via the clipboard, each with a Writely watermark). The export allowance replenishes on a rolling basis; the app shows when the next free export becomes available.
Writely Pro: a subscription, either monthly at €2.99 or yearly at €24.99, with unlimited handwritings and documents, unlimited exports without a watermark, PDF and GoodNotes export, TrueInk, all paper patterns, paper colors and page formats, all ink colors including a custom RGB color, custom spacing and page margins, and unlimited folders. Both terms begin with a free trial week (see section 2).
Writely Lifetime: a one-time purchase at €49.99 unlocking the same Pro features without a running subscription. There is no trial for the one-time purchase.
About “Lifetime”: the one-time purchase applies for the lifetime of the Writely product on the platforms for which it was acquired — not for the lifetime of a person. If Writely is discontinued one day, its usability ends with it; the purchase does not create a claim to indefinite continued operation. For as long as Writely is offered, no further costs arise for the Pro features it includes.
All prices stated include VAT and apply to Germany. The price Apple shows you in the App Store before purchase always governs; it may differ by country, region and tax rate.
Writely Pro begins with a free trial week on both the monthly and the yearly term. During those seven days all Pro features are fully available and nothing is charged.
The trial week converts automatically into a paid subscription. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, Apple then charges the regular price of the term you chose — €2.99 for the first month or €24.99 for the first year — and the subscription continues in accordance with section 3. If you cancel in time, nothing is charged; the Pro features remain usable until the trial week ends. How to cancel is described in section 4.
Once per Apple ID: Apple grants each introductory offer only once per subscription group. If you have already used the trial week on the monthly plan, you will not receive it again when switching to the yearly plan, and vice versa. The app checks your eligibility with Apple before the purchase and only shows the trial week if you still qualify. That check runs on your device; we learn nothing about you in the process (see Privacy Policy, section 5).
The trial week requires a payment method stored with Apple, because Apple asks you to confirm the purchase. That payment method is only charged once the trial week has ended.
There is no trial for Writely Lifetime. If you want to try Writely first, use either the permanently free plan or the trial week of a subscription.
Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. Payment falls due when you confirm the purchase.
A subscription renews automatically for the term selected unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Apple charges for the renewal within the last 24 hours before the current period expires.
Writely Lifetime is billed once and does not renew.
How to cancel your subscription — this applies during the trial week and during a running subscription alike:
To avoid triggering a payment, the cancellation must reach Apple at least 24 hours before the relevant date — that is, 24 hours before the trial week ends, or 24 hours before the current billing period ends. Cancellations received later take effect on the following date.
After cancellation the Pro features remain usable until the end of the period already paid for. The app then returns to Free mode: the limits in section 1 apply again and exports carry the Writely watermark once more.
Your content is preserved — nothing is deleted. If you are above the Free limits when Pro ends, the app asks you once which handwriting and which documents stay active. Everything else is merely locked: it remains fully stored and visible in the app, but cannot be opened or edited until Pro is active again. As soon as it is, every locked item is unlocked automatically and unchanged.
Files already created and exported with Pro remain unchanged and watermark-free in your possession.
The terms of Apple apply to withdrawal; details are in section 4 of the Terms.
The easiest way to withdraw is directly with Apple: in your Apple Account under “Purchase History” with “Revoke Transaction”, or at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple pays the money back because Apple collected the payment. We are happy to answer questions through the support form.
Do write to us anyway if something did not work — often the problem can be fixed directly.
A purchase is tied to your Apple ID, not to an account with us. On a new device or after reinstalling, you restore it via “Restore purchases” in the app settings, as long as you use the same Apple ID.
Whether and to what extent a purchase can be shared via Apple's Family Sharing depends on the respective configuration in the App Store and is shown there before purchase.
Apple shows you price changes for running subscriptions before the next renewal. Depending on the type of change, Apple obtains your express consent; if you do not consent, the subscription ends when the current period expires. In any event you can cancel before the change takes effect.
Later price changes do not affect Writely Lifetime.
Which features belong to Pro is described on the pricing page and in the App Store listing. We may develop the scope further; we will make material restrictions to features already paid for only under the conditions in section 11 of the Terms of Service.
The GoodNotes export is an expressly experimental feature. It is neither supported nor authorised by GoodNotes and is currently limited to one page per document; the details and the limits of our warranty are set out in section 9 of the Terms of Service.
